The Supreme Court has agreed to consider whether former President Donald Trump should be disqualified from the ballot in Colorado, thrusting the justices into the heart of the 2024 presidential campaign.

Both Trump and the Colorado voters who sued to bar him had asked the high court to weigh in and determine whether a part of the 14th Amendment designed to keep Confederates out of government after the Civil War should apply to the former president--and leading contender for the GOP nomination--later this year.

I would have said that Trump has a better of chance winning on the 14th Amendment case than the immunity case before the SCOTUS. But his arguments are so ridiculous he could lose both. He won't win points with the justices by insulting their intelligence. Here is a sampling of his arguments.

Trump's lawyers claim that the president is not "an officer of the United States"
Sen. Lot Morrill (R–Maine) reassured Johnson [who questioned the omission]: "Let me call the Senator's attention to the words 'or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States.'"

Trump's lawyers claim that Trump did not take an oath to "support the Constitution"
The Colorado Supreme Court thought that amounted to pretty much the same thing, saying "the language of the presidential oath" is "consistent with the plain meaning of the word 'support.'"

Listen up Barack Obama, Arnold Schwarzenegger and people under 35 wo are all disqualified from being president in 2024!
Trump's lawyers argue that Section 3 "merely bars individuals from holding office, not from seeking or winning election to office." They note that "Congress can remove a section 3 disqualification at any time," which means it could "remove that disability after a candidate is elected but before his term begins."

Some of the issues we agree on. I'm waiting for the reasoning

Trump's lawyers claim that the president is not "an officer of the United States"Bold
If you're barred from holding the office, there's no need to be on the ballot. Done. End of story.

Trump's lawyers claim that Trump did not take an oath to "support the Constitution"
    We agree on this also.

Listen up Barack Obama, Arnold Schwarzenegger and people under 35 wo are all disqualified from being president in 2024!
I doubt very seriously if that will be of any consequence also.

There are some other issues that do have standing with the court. Due process for one. The tribunal that CO held is not valid for due process unless they did the court in absentia. Again, we've got a month until they hear it. Lots can happen.
